Final results:
The $1,000 Ladies NLHE was again an event that was surrounded by much controversy, just like it was last year. 1,055 players registered for the event, growing the prize pool to $949,500. Many well-known female poker celebrities took part in the tournament like Kara Scott, Karina Jett, Jennifer Tilly, Cyndy Violette, Evelyn Ng, Gloria Balding, Leo Margets, Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree, Almira Skripchenko, Linda Johnson, Barbara Enrigh, Erica Schoenberg, Amanda Baker, Veronica Dabul, Lisa Hamilton and Maria Ho. But not just women, men also entered the event. Some as a joke, some as a real opportunity to win serious money. Of course this raised some eyebrows amongst the pros, many well-known people in the poker industry raised their voices on twitter that day:
Kevin Mathers
"Two guys at table 104 for ladies event"
Kevin Mathers
"btw, the tilt i'm referring to is just personal issues. why guys would want to play a ladies event is beyond me, but that's their issue."
Liv Boeree
"Playing the ladies event. Should be a fun event except for I now have "it's raining men" in my head. What I just witnessed is indescribable."
Lex Veldhuis
"Again I wish a lot of misery and 2 outters on every dude that entered the Ladies Event. Good luck to the other players ^^"
Daniel Negreanu
"There is something wrong with the law if we can't keep men out of ladies events and something even more wrong with the men who play them."
The event boiled down to the 9-handed final table by the 3rd day after Laura Desantis, Mafalda Lopes, Karen Fisher, Amanda Baker and Amanda Sizemore were eliminated. One male, Jonathan Epstein also made it to the final table, making his appearance harder to consider a joke. He was the first to be eliminated, which the crowd awarded with a round of applause. He might have won $13,701, but from now on he will surely be ridiculed and messed with at the poker tables.
