Earlier this week, former Full Tilt Poker owner Howard Lederer has made appearances in Las Vegas casinos, playing high stakes poker. Seen in the Bellagio’s Bobby’s Room, more recently Lederer has appeared at the Aria’s Ivey Room in the company of Nick Schulman, David Oppenheim, Huck Seed, Chau Giang, Doyle Brunson and Mike Matusow.
Lederer showing up publicly in high stakes games stirred up the not-so-peaceful waters of the international poker community; the casinos in question reinforced the security of their private rooms and banned photographing the ex-FTP head. They even claim to have received death threat phone calls.
Even though known for his frowning upon Lederer and his sister Annie Duke, Daniel Negreanu raised his voice in the matter in the protection of the casinos: “Bellagio/Aria 'allowing’ Lederer/Duke to play if they choose is the right decision IMO,” he tweeted. “I have no problem with playing poker with either of them. I don’t like either, but don’t have a problem facing them at a table.”
The return of Lederer to public games is all the more intriguing, as he had reported to be broke following the Black Friday seizures, with his bank accounts also frozen in the ongoing civil suit for $40 million against the US Department of Justice.
