Many of them made a deal and pleaded guilty, including Lang, Franzen, Rubin, Elie, Campos and Beckley, which allowed Campos to only sit 3 months, while Beckley’s sentences was lowered to 12-18 months, Franzen’s and Rubin’s to 18-14 months, instead of the maximum of 30 years they faced.
Beckely is now sentenced, too: AP’s co-founder and vice president sits 14 months, in addition to the seizure of $300,000 from his wealth and a $30,000 fine.
Even though Judge Lewis A. Kaplan did not feel the sentence to be proportionate to Beckley’s crimes, the US Department of Justice protected 32-year-old Beckley and assured the court he had been fully cooperating with the authorities and caused no harm to any financial institution. Judge Kaplan finally sentenced him to 14 months jail time.
Kaplan’s ruling is similar to Campos’ case, where the court did not feel the lowered sentence appropriate but ruled 3 months nevertheless.
