Teufelberger, the Hannibal Lecter of Belgian online poker
Following the arrest, bwin.party has issued a statement, communicating the issue as Teufelberger taking it upon himself voluntarily to answer the questions of the authorities. The Austrian businessman was released following two hours of questioning, slightly after the stock exchange closed for the day and the bwin.party shares dropped about 4%. Teufelberger agreed to call a board meeting to present an official statement on stopping violating the Belgian regulations before 17 December.
Teufelberger had been previously attacking the Belgian laws on gambling on public forums and bwin.party sued the Belgian Gaming Commission for violating EU regulations and the Belgian constitution with their licence requirements.
