As PokerStars officially exits Poland, WPT Global is seizing the opportunity to grow its local presence and attract displaced players.
WPT Global, currently the second-largest online poker network worldwide, recently posted a job opening for a Polish Social Media Manager—a clear signal of its intent to expand in Poland, according to a report by Poker Industry Pro. The move comes just days after PokerStars announced its departure, suggesting WPT Global aims to fill the gap left behind.
The new role focuses on Polish-language content, social media strategy, and paid campaigns, all in collaboration with a local Country Manager. This indicates a structured push into a market long seen as one of Europe’s most important for online poker.
Poland's gambling laws explicitly allow international operators to apply for online sports betting licenses, but no licensing framework exists for online poker—effectively forcing it into a legal gray area. Despite ISP blocks and a government-maintained blacklist, WPT Global has served Polish players since its 2022 launch, using alternative payment methods like digital wallets and crypto.
With 37 million potential players and PokerStars gone, only WPT Global and GGPoker remain as major international options. GGPoker already runs a localized .PL site, but WPT Global’s latest hire hints at a broader campaign to win over players.
PokerStars cited a “reassessment of priorities” rather than legal changes for its exit. Regardless, the shake-up leaves a clear opening for competitors. WPT Global, already hosting over 2,700 concurrent cash game seats, is well positioned to grow its user base in Poland.
