The Onyx Club Super High Roller Series $102K PLO Invitational concluded at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa in Cyprus, drawing 79 entries and generating a prize pool of $7,663,000. Nine players returned for Thursday’s final day, all guaranteed at least $255,000, but chasing the coveted title and the $1.9 million top prize.
A Final Table Full of Firepower
The lineup was as stacked as any PLO table can get. ‘Dony’ entered the finale with a massive chip lead worth nearly 200 big blinds, followed by Cong Pham and Hungary’s Laszlo Bujtas, better known online as omaha4rollz—one of the most feared high-stakes PLO specialists in the world. Samuli Sipila, Martin Dam, and former WSOP champion Ben Lamb filled out the middle, while Robert Cowen, Sergei Nesterenko, and Lautaro Guerra came in as the short stacks.
Early Eliminations
Nesterenko was the first casualty when his dominated hand couldn’t improve against Cowen. Lamb was next, falling to ‘Dony’ after his queens couldn’t hold. Cowen’s run ended in seventh when Bujtas’ aces stood tall, further boosting the Hungarian’s stack.
Dam followed in sixth after losing a race to Sipila.
Bujtas Falls in Fifth
Bujtas’ strong run ended in fifth place when he got his stack in with kings against Sipila’s queens. The flop brought trouble for the Hungarian, and a queen on the turn sealed his fate. He cashed for $565,000, adding another significant live result to his already stellar résumé.
Pham’s Exit Sets Up a Deal
Cong Pham departed in fourth after losing a blind-versus-blind flip against Guerra, pocketing $725,000. With three left, a deal was struck between ‘Dony,’ Sipila, and Guerra. Although the official payouts listed $1.9M for first, $1.34M for second, and $950K for third, the trio agreed to undisclosed terms before playing it out for the trophy.
Guerra’s Breakout Year Continues
Spain’s Lautaro Guerra came in short but laddered up to third for $1,280,000 under the deal. The result continues his remarkable form: he now has eight six-figure scores this year, plus his $2.1M bracelet victory in the $100K PLO Super High Roller at WSOP Paradise.
Dony Secures the Title
The final flips went in favor of ‘Dony,’ who overcame Sipila heads-up to officially take home the trophy and the winner’s share of the deal.
