Daniel Negreanu
„The best no limit hold'em players in the world today are mostly young. It's just a fact and if you look at tournament results over the past few years it's trending younger and younger. Why? The younger players are using more advanced tools to break down the game, discussing hands with friends and on forums, and most importantly are putting in more volume than the older generation,” he noted at his blog at PokerPages.com.
The four-time WSOP champion, who has been overtly criticised for his cash game, worked hard to put more effort into online play during last year: first, he wanted to build a $100,000 bankroll from $10 but he soon lost his initial enthusiasm. Then, he tried to upgrade his skills at the high stakes tables against the top online players. Now, it seems he keeps being determined to pursue improvement.
“One of my other goals this year was to accumulate over 55,000 vpps this year on PokerStars. I got 55,000 last year, my highest total ever, and I plan on getting to 60,000 this year, and possibly even reach SuperNova status. One of the best ways to do it, I found, was to play the $5600 buy in heads up NLH turbo sit n' gos,” Negreanu wrote.
To hit the SuperNova mark, he needs to accumulate 100,000 VPPs. In fact, he does not seem to want to take his time doing so: currently, he actually leads SharkScope’s “Holdem Heads Up Over $1000” Sit & Go leaderboard of 2011 (see below).
In addition, Negreanu plans to 4-table $5-$10 heads-up over the following period as a means of preparation for a possible future clash against Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom in the SuperStar Showdown.
