As has been reported, quite a lot of poker pros turned out to have lent money to David ’Chino’ Rheem, who, despite his total live winnings of over $5 million, did not seem to be in the mood of repaying them. His case was brought to public light when PCA High Roller champion Will Molson posted on 2p2 that Rheem had owed him $40,000 for over a year. He asked for $20,000 for the EPT London High Roller event as he only had money on FTP and he could buy-in via PokerStars directly. Due to some technical issues, however, he received $40,000 from Molson which he did not pay back, despite winning $150,000 in the event.

As players contributed to the forum thread, it soon became apparent that Molson was not the only one Rheem was indebted to. When the case came out, Rheem happened to play in the $20,000 Epic Poker League main event for the $1 million first prize. The pro won, defeating Erik Seidel heads-up, and although many had been sceptic, he started repaying his debts afterwards.
First to report on his action was WSOP November Niner Ben Lamb: “OMG, Chino won $1 million and paid me my money (most people got 10% paid) I got all,” he tweeted. It would seem that all of his investors got at least 10% back indeed.
“Ya, I won a million bucks! And I’m still broke! But I feel better than ever! Anyone who wants to judge me, y’all better know me first!” ‘Chino’ reacted on his Twitter, going on like this: “I’m living my life! Broke or pumped! Imma do it! I know who my friends are, I’m grateful for y’all! I love y’all! I’ll die for my team!”
Although it is definitely good news Rheem started to pay back the money he was lent, he still remains deep in debt and repaying everything does not seem an easy undertaking. Moreover, the community wonders if he had paid had the scandal not exploded and if he continued to pay, once the issue settles a bit.
