Phil Ivey Launches Coaching Site

Eight times WSOP champion Phil Ivey launches a brand new poker site with 2012 Main Event winner Greg Merson as a sponsored pro, in addition to Patrik Antonius and Jennifer Harman.

In March, 2011, Phil Ivey announced a new site with the goal to teach everyone in the world to become a winning poker player. His agenda, raising a number of questions back then, including who would have lost if everyone had won, could not be fulfilled, as the Black Friday crossed Ivey’s calculations.

With the returning of Full Tilt Poker and in a more settled environment, however, the scandal concerning the former pros of the room, including Ivey, seems to quiet down. It is in this setting that Ivey digs up his former plans and launches IveyPoker.com.

The site is currently available only in its very basic form, offering to sign up for a newsletter of information on the development. In addition, there is a link to 2012 World Champion Greg Merson’s own site, who is one of the pros of IveyPoker.com. Next to him, Patrik Antonius and Jennifer Harman have also signed to Team Ivey, making them members of the coaching team as well.

In interview with ESPN.com, Ivey said the following about his site:

“IveyPoker.com launched over the weekend. What’s the website all about?

“I was looking at other social poker sites, and when I was looking through them, I saw a really big hole in those sites: People aren’t learning how to play. You see people just going on there and playing, but not really learning how to play the right way. What we’re doing here is teaching people how to become a winning poker player. I think a lot of people really don’t know how to play poker, and I think this is going to be an opportunity to play with the best players in the world.

“Specifically, how will people learn how to play?

“There’s going to be video instruction with myself and players on Team Ivey, answering questions and teaching people how to play live. That’s the two things right there: People will learn how to play live. You can go on there and download it. It’s free. It’s going to be a place where people can play socially. There’s going to be no charge.”

While knowledge of the pros of IveyPoker.com is unquestionable, it is doubtful whether the high stakes professionals will be able to help beginners of the low stakes.
