Cantu vs Aguiar
While it was originally planned to resume the duel on Sunday, Aguiar also entered the WSOPE Main Event Day 1B, hence it was postponed to Monday, bringing about Aguiar’s victory, who started from behind.
Runner-up Cantu was most displeased, saying that the organisers did everything on his opponent’s conditions and gave time for Aguiar to prepare with his online friends against Cantu, thus basically “stealing” the bracelet from him.
Cantu demanded a rematch and Aguiar, considering Cantu’s rage unfounded, accepted the challenge, while maintaining that he won under proper circumstances and he deserved it. The stake of the rematch is the €98,588, the difference between the prizes of the 1st and 2nd places of the Mixed Max game.
The clash is now scheduled for 7 November at the Aria Casino in Las Vegas. Aguiar only bets the money, not the bracelet, saying Cantu would need to bet a 6-digit amount for him to even consider it.
The two players have not developed a warm friendship, with Cantu criticising Aguiar’s game on a regular basis during the original game. This leads to a possibly heated, intense clash on 7 November, already at the centre of the poker community’s attention.
