Ivey Wins $736,000 in Two Days

Phil Ivey has not been among the top performers recently as regards online high stakes poker. Late last week, however, he began to run hot and diminished his annual spending significantly.

Phil Ivey is considered by many simply the best poker player in the world. He has eight WSOP championship titles, his live tournament winnings total at $17.5 million and he tops the online high stakes poker money list with a total of $19.2 million under his ‘Phil Ivey’ screen name. Following the closure of FTP after Black Friday, he disappeared from the online field, switching to live games in Macau above all. Even though he had long since returned, his online performance has been disappointing. Until now...

After half a year’s hiatus, he returned under the screen name ‘RaiseOnce’ to the highest stakes at PS. He has fallen well short of his former self, though, performing under expectations and losing a total of $35,000.

Phil Ivey

With the return of FTP in November, many have anticipated Ivey to seriously get down to business online and hoped he would find himself at the tables. Ivey, now under the ‘Polarizing’ screen name, has indeed become more active but results have failed to follow: he lost a total of $252,340 in November and December, 2012 and he has been one of the biggest losers of 2013, with a -$1,821,910 balance in 42,441 hands as of 26 March.

A day later, however, something changed: he got into a swing, ending the day in the top position of the money list with $244,082 in profits and added another $492,762 to that on Thursday. His Wednesday winnings came from FLO8 and PLO games, defeating FLO8 specialists Kyle ‘KPR16’ Ray and ‘SallyWoo’, in addition to Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, among other players.

On Thursday, Ivey’ chief opponent was ‘KPR16’ at the FLO8 tables: the latter lost $293,000 to him first, then he lost around $55,000 to ‘RookieNFL’ in $500/$1,000 CAP NLHE. ‘KPR16’ then returned to give another $137,000 to Ivey, followed by a third session of the two, where Ivey got another boost to his bankroll for $126,000.

Polarizing Wins

Ivey ended the day with $492,762 in winnings for a total of $736,000 in only two days. Early Friday, he was already up $294,574 and the weekend has only just begun. Can Ivey come back from his loss and get back to his throne this year?
