"Afraid I am finally gonna give in to Father Time and pass on tournament play at WSOP. #toomanyhours" - Brunson tweeted.
Naturally, the news of Texas Dolly's absence suprised the poker community. Many say a period is over in the history of poker, others wish the best, but many speculate he is just waving goodbye to tiring tournament play, and will still be active at the cash tables.
Brunson was diagnosed with from Squamous Cell Carcinoma, for which he has received treatment, which must obviously be hard on his system. This type of cancer can be cured rather well if diagnosed in its early stages.
With Doyle Brunson, his living legend will also be missing from the tables. He is a 10-time WSOP champion (2 Main Event titles out of the 10), WPT Champion, his live tournament earnings are more than $6 million. The T-2 hand in Texas Hold'em is named after him, since he won both of his WSOP ME titles with the combination. He is the first player to have amassed $1 million in live tournament winnings for the first time, but he is also highly successful at the cash tables. Brunson is the author of the instant classic poker books, SuperSystem 1-2. He was elected into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1988.
