“Poker isn’t just about winning money. It’s also about challenging yourself and your friends and having fun doing it. Our new Achievements feature is about enhancing this aspect of poker,” Microgaming’s Head of Network Games Lydia Melton says.
A total of 27 real money challenges will be rewarded, of which one at a time can be displayed with our avatar at the tables. This is up to players’ choice but if a user does not pick one, they will automatically have the latest by their screen name.
The achievements launching in the first phase include the following:
- Pimp My Client, which encourages new players to configure the MPN poker client to best suit them.
- Chatterbox, which is awarded to players who socialise with their opponents at the table.
- Cliché Collector, which goes to players who collect a series of iconic Hold’em hands.
- All Rounder, which players receive for trying all poker variants.
- Early Bird, for those players who start new tables and tournaments.
- Live Wire, which is awarded to players who qualify for live events via the MPN.
It goes without saying that this addition aims to befriend recreational players above all, whose game experience can be improved this way.
Similar action has been taken by rival major poker network iPoker, home to rooms like William Hill and Betfair. They have recently announced changes that would help the network adapt better to the ruling market trends.
The exact nature of these changes remains as yet undisclosed; however, it seems fairly certain that USD tables will be discontinued and EUR and GBP become the preferred currencies. Game selection will be reduced to four game types: shallow, normal, anonymous and ante. Players will have only 18 seconds to take action at the tables.
Playtech aims to reduce sit-in possibilities without having to stop games altogether, increasing the liquidity of individual games. According to the press release, the network also wants to enhance recreational player experience. To this end, they are updating the lobby as well, making it more intuitive and easier to use.
The network is also retiring some of the stakes in its offer; no specifics have so far been announced, except that they have been analysing where recreational players lose the most.
