The iPoker network has implemented changes to their rake structure in some of the No Limit and Pot Limit Cash games. The maximum amount of rake deducted from the pot has been increased from €3 to €4 at stakes between €0,50/€1,00 and €5,00/€10.
Since the rake is €0,01 for every €0,20 in the pot, the €4 rake cap kicks into effect if a pot reaches €80. The previous rake cap was activated at €60.
At the €0,50/€1,00 stakes the rake cap will be reached less often but as the stakes get higher pots over €80 get more and more common. At €5,00/€10,00 stakes a €25 opening raise and a call is already enough to create a €65 pot (including the blinds) which means the cap increase is a significant change.
iPoker has also removed the decreased rake cap which was activated when tables were three or four-handed, from now the new rake cap also applies to these situations.
Players can expect a rake increase of 10-25% depending on the stakes they play on.
According to some, the increase can be attributed to the conflict between PokerStars and their regular players. Plenty of high stakes players are planning leaving PokerStars and the iPoker network is one of the most obvious choices for them. The iPoker network is fourth on the .COM/.EU online cash game traffic list and is pretty much the only network that didn't make moves to attract more recreational players and still provides exceptionally high returns to its players.
Even though the network welcomes the regulars who are planning on leaving PS, they still want to prevent a huge influx of players, that could have been a reason for raising the rake.
