You could think that there are not too many things that would surprise you when it comes to the game of poker. After all, what else can people really come up with to upgrade those group of card games with similar set of rules. Maybe a tweak here or there. Poker business, especially online, is constantly changing in terms of improving the offer presented to clients, and that is understandable and expected. The new feature introduced by PokerStars however, comes from a whole different planet.

Power Up, as they call it, sure does take things to the next level. It is sort of the aftermath of the discussion among some famous poker players and enthusiasts of Hearthstone – collectible card game that is often put together with poker. Some of them focused on similarities between the two and though it would be nice to transform the idea of the ability to use some action cards into the good old Texas Holdem. Now the deliberations became reality, and the special power cards made their way into the game. In this variation, players are able to make special moves other than just regular calling and folding. This could, for example, allow them to remove one of the cards laying on the table, peek at the one on the deck’s top or expose one of the opponent’s cards.
You can safely say that this is pure madness, but for someone that will be able to control this chaos reasonably well, the new idea could bring a lot of joy. However, if you feel like a poker pro and are thinking about applying those mad skills and your best texas holdem strategy to take the game by the storm – it is strongly advised for you to sit back and think again. It’s not like everything you know is completely useless, of course not. The objectives are still pretty much the same, and you simply have to get the best hand to take the pot. It’s just this goal has gotten harder to accomplish, or better yet – the game became even harder to figure out, and the next move more difficult to predict. The regular poker already has a wide range of possible scenarios, and this just adds to that significantly. Becoming a true master of the new feature will surely take a special kind of skill, and a lot of strategic planning.
The system is clearly in its beta stage testing phase, as there is no way of telling it will make an instant hit. It is currently available on PS platform, and if you’d like to see for yourself what is all about – the stakes start from one dollar. The one thing seems certain about the invention, and that is it will most likely have its admirers and declared opponents. Especially the latter might have strong opinions about ruining the purity of the game, but that’s just something anybody have to decide on their own. Only the time can tell whether Power Up will be the future of poker, or rather the futuristic variation of it, without the real chance of making history.
