Tom “Durrrr” Dwan Becomes Ambassador for WPN Flagship Skin, ACR
Winning Poker Network (WPN) has six active skins and is a famous offshore, US-friendly network. Its flagship skin, ACR (previously Americas Cardroom), operates under Costa Rican and Curacao laws. It’s popular among US players and works with various ambassadors to promote its platform. It recently signed Tom “Durrrr” Dawn, a controversial yet legendary player.
Tom Dwan and Poker
Professional poker became the career of Tom Dwan (37) in the early 2000s. His predominant playing platform was the (now defunct) Full Tilt Poker site. Most of his fame came from playing high-stakes cash games.
He also made history by generating a $2 million bankroll from a $50 deposit. However, what turned this poker player into the legendary figure he is today?
Durrrr’s Poker Career
Dwan became known for his loose-aggressive playing style. He’s still called one of the most feared online cash game players globally. His willingness to play in high-stakes cash games, success, and bold personality drives his fame.
He was also invited to several poker shows. These included the National Heads Up Poker Championship on NBC, GSN’s High Stakes Poker, and even Poker After Dark. He made history again in 2009 by winning the most significant televised cash game pot during Full Tilt Poker’s Million Dollar Cash Game.
It was $1.1 million at the time, and last year, he won a pot of $3.1 million in a live stream at Hustler Casino. In doing so, he reclaimed that record. He’s been affiliated with several poker brands, the latest being ACR.
ACR Ambassador Partnership
As a Jersey player, we shouldn’t be surprised that Dwan became an ambassador for ACR. The brand recently announced the partnership, stating that “his bold, daring approach to the game is a great fit with ACR Poker’s mentality.”
Meanwhile, Tom also states, “CEO Phil Nagy and I share a similar view on online poker”. Both ACR and Tom are excited about the opportunities this partnership brings. However, not all are as excited as they are.
Controversies Surrounding Dwan
There are several controversies surrounding Dwan, primarily about reported unpaid debts. Peter Jetten stated that Dwan owes him $226k for the last four years and continues to make excuses about why he can’t repay it.
Haralabos Voulgaris also states that this legendary player owes him money in the high seven figures. The two placed bearing bets together and won significantly. However, since Dwan lost money with another bearding group, he couldn’t pay back the winnings to Voulgaris.
Many wonder whether a player who’s reportedly unethical in his dealings with other players should be made an ambassador. Jetten cautioned against working with him. Ultimately, it’s up to ACR whether they continue the partnership.
