After about 25 hands into the initial level 27 (40,000/80,000/10,000), play already came down to the elimination of Skip Wilson, who ran into Michael Benvenuti’s pocket queens. From then on, Flowers kept sending his opponents to the rail; he bested Frankenberger (with pocket tens), Koon (with jack-high straight) as well as Schwartz (with A Q ).

Level 30 (80,000/160,000/15,000) saw the showdown of the heads-up, where Flowers had a massive chiplead of 5:2 over Benvenuti all along. After around a dozen hands, the latter went all-in on a flop of 9 6 6 , holding Q 7 for a flush draw. With the turn being 4 and the river A , however, Flowers’ top pair of nines won him the hand along with his second WPT title. The winnings can be seen below:
