According to a press release recently published, the WSOPE moves to Cannes, France as a result of a deal between CIE and Lucien Barrière Hôtels & Casinos and BarrierePoker.fr. Besides introducing WSOPE qualifiers to the Barrière Poker Tour 2011, the tournament will also be rebranded as WSOPE® Presented by BarrierePoker.fr. As CIE chief executive officer Mitch Garber stated: “This is a unique agreement between two casino leaders with great brands. Lucien Barrière Hôtels & Casinos is a well-run organization and we are excited to work with them to access the French market with high-quality and reputable poker events both in their hotels and casinos, and online with BarrierePoker.fr.”
Seven French venues (Toulouse, Nice, Lille, Dinard, Enghien, Trouville and Bordeaux) will play host to the WSOPE qualifiers during the Barrière Poker Tour 2011, starting in April. The tourney will culminate in the WSOPE, held at the Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisettein from October 7-21, 2011. The new site allows for twice as great field size as in previous years, providing room for 75 tables. What is more, WSOPE will offer seven WSOP golden bracelets for the first time outside Las Vegas.

“Backed by this alliance, we will be even better equipped to let online players access the most prestigious world poker events in casinos and to benefit from special, unique operations in conjunction with WSOP® events,” commented BarrierePoker.fr Deputy CEO Jean-Etienne Bouedec on the deal. This is indeed a perspective, besides CIE’s initiative to maintain the possibility for French players to legally qualify for the WSOP events in the large numbers they usually do.
