The most significant poker tournament of the Old Continent, the European Poker Tour (EPT) started in 2004 and it has been held for the seventh time this season. The tour would culminate in the €10,000 Grand Final in Monte Carlo, but despite the exclusive venue and the top quality organisation, many have criticised the event recently; most players simply find Monte Carlo too expensive.

PokerStars has been striving to adjust to the needs of the participants; therefore, it has not been a secret for a while now that the finale would not be held in Monte Carlo. The exact location, however, had remained undisclosed up until last Sunday, when the room officially announced that the new venue would be in Madrid.
As EPT chief executive officer John Duthie put it, "We wanted somewhere new, dynamic and inspiring, and knew that Madrid would tick all the boxes for the travelling poker player, regardless of age or desires.” The EPT Grand Final Madrid takes place on May 7-12 at Casino Gran Madrid, about 30-45 minutes travel time from the city centre. The casino features 80 to 100 tables at which the usual organisational team, TK Poker Events will seat the players.
