Online pro Ben ‘NeverScaredB’ Wilinofsky started the 8-handed final table of the EPT Season 7 Berlin main event as chipleader, followed by other favourite Swedish Martin Jacobson, who finished 3rd in EPT Budapest in 2008 and 2nd in EPT Vilamoura in 2010 and EPT Deauville in 2011.
Play started at level 27 (5,000/30,000/60,000) and Wilinofsky opened great, taking a pot of 6 million with a set against Maximilian Heinzelmann, who mucked his hand.
A bit later shortstack Jonas Gutteck went all-in preflop with 670,000, Heinzelmann insta-called. Gutteck showed J 9 , Heinzelmann held pocket kings and on the K T 2 K 6 board, he felted Gutteck with a four of a kind.
After Joep van den Bijgaart, Darren Kramer and Armin Mette were all sent to the rail, 4-handed play began with Wilinofsky’s enormous chip lead:
Ben Wilinofsky: 12,945,000
Max Heinzelmann: 4,700,000
Martin Jacobson: 3,195,000
Vadzim Kursevich: 2,290,000
Jacobson went bust next at level 30 (15,000/60,000/120,000). Heinzelmann raised from the Button, Jacobson 3-bet from SB, Heinzelmann went all-in and Jacobson called.
Jacobson: A K
Heinzelmann: 6 6
Board: 5 5 3 2 7
Heinzelmann won the pot with two pairs.
Vadzim Kursevich finished 3rd when he went all-in on the J Q K flop against Wilinofsky. He held A K while the latter showed T 9 for a straight which held out for the next streets. So the heads-up began:
Ben Wilinofsky: 16,235,000
Max Heinzelmann: 6,895,000
Heinzelmann did not manage to turn the tide; eventually, he bet 225,000 on the 8 5 3 flop and got raised by Wilinofsky to 500,000. He went all in with 4,025,000 and Wilinofsky called.
Heinzelmann: 8 9
Wilinofsky: 7 6
Turn: 9
River: J
So Wilinofsky won EPT Berlin 2011 with a straight.
