Earlier tonight, Vanessa Selbst has succeeded in besting the 387 field to win $450,000. By this, she repeated her last year's result, when she defeated the 716 field to win $750,000, which makes her the back-to-back champion of the NAPT Mohegan Sun. When asked about her victory she said:
"I don't know, I'm speechless,(...) I didn't win this in my typical fashion, I didn't steamroll the table. I had some luck on my side and I played a pretty good heads up game against a formidable opponent."
She is talking about Dan Shak, whom she played the final battle against, and whom she managed to beat from a considerable chip deficit, doubling up with a middle set against middle pair. Shak couldn't recover from such a blow, and after just 60 hands of the heads-up, the final hand came about: Shak went all-in on the K 7 3 flop with J 7. Unfortunately for him, Selbst called with K 7, which meant the end of game. She commented: "This is seriously the most special thing in my career. Maybe last year wasn't a fluke." With this win, she is 3rd on the women's all-time money list with over $4 million. Only Kathy Liebert ($5.8 million) and Annie Duke ($4.27 million) have earned more money than Selbst up to date. Congratulations!
