The finale, however, revolved around Lukas Berglund, starting from 4th position, rather than the favourites. The 18 years old poker player crushed his way through the final table, eliminating all his opponents, with a healthy amount of luck, of course.
After half an hour into the match, Artur Koren was preflop all-in, Berglund also shoved, shortstack Markus Ristola called:
Berglund: 7 7
Ristola: Q Q
Koren: A A
Board: 7 5 T J 3
Berglund won with a set, Koren finished in 7th, Ristola in 8th place.
Alexander Sidorin was railed soon afterwards: he pushed his stack in on A5, Berglund called with queens and the single five on the otherwise neutral board did not help the former much. Next out was Guillem Usero, who preflop 3-bet Berglund’s raise with pocket queens, then stacks were eventually pushed in the middle on the 4 T 7 flop. Berglund showed 8 9 for an open-ended straight draw, which was completed on the J river.
The Swede sent Jorge Duffour to the rail with a pair of kings against the latter’s pocket tens, then called shortstack Frederic Bussot’s all-in on K 9 with queens. Flopping a set, he did not really mind Bussot’s rivered king and so the heads-up was imminent.
The HU lasted only a couple of hands; in the last one, Romain Matteoli went all-in on the 7 8 4 5 board and Berglund insta-called.
Matteoli: 8 3
Berglund: A 6
River: 5
Berglund won the tournament, which was his first appearance in a major live event, with a straight, becoming the youngest champion ever in WPT history. The results are as follows:
