French poker pro Bertand ’ElkY’ Grospellier won WSOP $10,000 Seven Card Stud (Event #21), making it to the Triple Crown with a WPT and an EPT title. Victory in $1,500 PLO (Event #22) was Elie Payan’s, another French player who won his first live event championship ever.
The 14 players who returned on Day 3 of the WSOP $10,000 Seven Card Stud event included Bertand ’ElkY’ Grospellier, Chad Brown, Jason Mercier, Chris Tryba, Alexander Kostritsyn, Sorel Mizzi, Men Nguyen, Nick Schulman and Ville Wahlbeck, with Steve Landfish in the chiplead. Although Mercier, Wahlbeck, Mizzi, Nguyen and Schulman all got eliminated, the 8-handed final table was nevertheless impressive:

Tryba was to be eliminated in 8th place at Level 19 (3,000/12,000/24,000), followed by Kevin Tang and Brown. Kostritsyn came next, then John Hennigan and, finally, it came down to the heads-up with Maxwell Troy being railed at Level 24 (10,000/40,000/80,000).

Landfish managed to maintain his lead (2,260,000 over the Frenchman’s 1,520,000) for long in the heads-up that lasted about 4 hours and even regain it, but ‘ElkY’ grasped it two times. Eventually, Grospellier took a huge pot with two pairs and Landfish shoved his remaining 300,000 in the next hand:

Finnish Juha Vilkki started the 9-handed final table of WSOP Event #22 $1,500 PLO as chipleader, having a stack (1,235,000) twice as big as Rafe Kibrit’s in second place. The setup of the finale can be seen below:

Level 22 (10,000/20,000) brought about the first elimination of the day, that of Roland Israelashvili to be precise. Jeff Sarwer finished in 8th place, and then Cody Munger, Emil Patel, Stephen Wolfe and Vilkki were also railed. David ‘Doc’ Sands’ 3rd place finish left Payan and Kibrit play heads-up.

Although both players could double-up, the last hand eventually saw Payan in a 3:1 lead over his opponent at Level 27 (30,000/60,000). Kibrit called all-in on Payan’s pot raise on the {#}4 {#}3 {#}2 flop.
