Jonathan Aguiar and other poker pros started battling WSOP organizers because of a newly introduced rule, according to which players always have to verbally declare their actions at the final table. They have to say whether they are checking, calling, folding, raising, and players also have to say the exec amount of a raise out loud. If one does not abide by these rules, they first get a verbal warning, and if they neglect the rule for a second time, they get closed out of a hand. In case of another mistake, players get closed out of multiple hands at the final table.
The debate burst out at the $1.500 Pot Limit Hold’em final table and after. Jonathan Aguiar, Bryan Pellegrino and Nick Jivkov, among others, think that the rule is inappropriate. This is what Aguiar tweeted about the incident:
"The @wsop final table rule required playing to announce every single action and bet is possibly the worst rule in poker history. Some of us have been playing poker in silence for a decade, to expect us to do differently with 100's of thousands on the line is bullshit. They only tried to enforce the rule on us and threatened PENALTIES 3 handed because Daniel didn't want to and had busted already. Not to mention that even the announcers in the booth agreed last night that it was stupid, unnecessary, and unfair to the players."
Countless poker players agreed with Aguiar, including Isaac Haxton, Matt Stout, David Sands , Daniel Negreanu, Steve O'Dwyer and Max Waxman. They also judge the fact that WSOP organizers did not ask for the opinion of players before introducing the rule.
Shawn Daniels does not agree with the rest, and tweeted the following, which then got published at the official WSOP website:
"@JonAguiar @wsop @wsoptd why are you the only one who cries all day every day about everything Adapt and stop sounding like a complete bitch”
Seth Palansky also has a few things to say about the issue in the QuadJacks interview below (from 08:00):
