First out from the final nine was Brian Twete, followed by Bryn Kenney. Ivey finished in 7th place when his check-raise all-in was called by Brunson whose hand developed into a wheel on the 7th street against Ivey’s pair of 7s. Brunson then eliminated Zimnan Ziyard in a similar fashion, before Sven Arntzen and Nikolai Yakovenko were also sent to the rail.
On Level 27 (10,000/40,000/80,000), the heads-up was set: Friedman’s three of 4s busted Monnette’s hand.
Todd Brunson: 2,180,000
Adam Friedman: 1,000,000
In a good three hours long play, Friedman managed to come back several times, just to see Brunson re-establishing his lead. That is, until the very end of Level 29 (15,000/60,000/120,000), when Friedman turned a roughly even layout into a major lead in a mere two hands. This ultimately led to the final hand, when Brunson check-called Friedman’s bet on the 4th street, and then shoved on the 5th.
Todd Brunson: T 3
Adam Friedman: J J
Brunson’s split tens failed to improve, giving the victory to Friedman in his first live tournament since March, 2009 – and also his first WSOP bracelet ever.
