First out was Erion Islamay, who open shoved on A-6 and Marcello Montagner called with tens, improving to a set on the board. Rocco Palumbo came to dominate the game after that: first, he doubled up on Robert Begni with pocket aces, then he eliminated Xia Lin with A-J against the latter’s A-6.
Begni eventually finished in 4th place, going all-in with A-6 himself and got called by Montagner from behind a much larger stack and on J-2 for a two on the river on a neutral board. Mike Sexton was railed next, c-betting the J-7-6-A board and shoving on the turn on J-9. It was Montagner again who called and he showed A-7 two pairs for the nuts.
The last hand of the hour-long heads-up took place on Level 26 (5,000/20,000/40,000), in which Palumbo had the edge. He raised from the button, Montagner 3-bet to 170,000 and Palumbo called. The flop came J T 8 , Montagner bet 180,000, Palumbo raised to 480,000 and Montagner snap-called. On the 4 turn, he shoved and Palumbo called.
