WSOP 2013 Event #23 $2,500 Seven Card Stud, dedicated to the memory of basketball and poker legend Jerry Buss, had 246 entrants melting down to 106 and, by Day 3, to only 10, with the money bubble bursting at 32 finishes. The final day saw WSOP 2010 Player of the Year Frank Kassela in the lead with 331,500 in chips and he was accompanied by the likes of David Chiu, Scott Seiver, Michael Mizrachi and Freddie Ellis.

With the elimination of Jesse Martin and Helmut Koch, the following eight-handed Final Table was drawn:

Seat 1: David Chiu – 313,000
Seat 2: Michael Mizrachi – 320,000
Seat 3: Freddie Ellis – 85,000
Seat 4: Adam Friedman – 60,000
Seat 5: Gary Benson – 365,000
Seat 6: Matthew Ashton – 240,000
Seat 7: Frank Kassela – 180,000
Seat 8: Scott Seiver – 260,000

Play started on Level 20 (2,000/8,000/16,000) and it only took 24 hands to reach the first elimination on Level 21 (2,000/10,000/20,000): Chiu won shortstack Friedman’s chips with a straight. Next came Matthew Ashton, followed shortly thereafter by Gary Benson and Kassela. The latter showed against Seiver on the sixth street.

Kassela: x x / {#}6 {#}9 {#}6 {#}3
Seiver: x x / {#}5 {#}6 {#}7 {#}5

Kassela tabled {#}A {#}Q to see Seiver getting {#}T {#}T for two pair and the {#}7 on the seventh street could not help him (Seiver got {#}A ).

Mizrachi was out in 4th, getting railed by Seiver’s set of fours. The heads-up, then, was set on Level 24 (5,000/20,000/40,000) by the elimination of Ellis.

David Chiu – 1,080,000
Scott Seiver – 820,000

Chiu maintained his lead and, despite Seiver doubling up once or twice, he was eventually down to 245,000. The final hand took place on Level 25 (5,000/25,000/50,000), where they shoved on the sixth street.

Chiu: {#}J {#}T / {#}8 {#}J {#}3 {#}7
Seiver: {#}4 {#}3 / {#}8 {#}9 {#}3 {#}4

Seiver received {#}A on the seventh street but his two pair was cracked by Chiu’s {#}T for top two pair that gave Chiu the victory.
