WSOP 2013 - Event #27 - Isaac Hagerling Wins Mixed Max Tournament

Only the finale, the heads-up game of Max Steinberg and Isaac Hagerling remained for Day 4 of World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2013 Event #27 $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max. They did not finish on Day 3, or the heads-up day of the tournament.

WSOP 2013 Event #27 $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max started with 593 players playing on full-ring tables. A $1,618,890 prize pool awaited the top 68 finishers. 234 players made it to Day 2, where they were seated at six-max tables and only 32 remained to clash in heads-up matches on Day 3.

Jeremy Ausmus, Dan Healey, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Brandon Cantu, Max Steinberg, Chris Johnson, Jason Koon and Isaac Hagerling made it to the quarter finals, where they were set up as follows:

Cantu had the chiplead since the beginning of the day and still he was the first to be eliminated: Steinberg had top pair. Ausmus was the next to make it to the top four, calling Johnson’s all-in with {#}A {#}4 . The latter had {#}Q {#}6 and the board came {#}A {#}3 {#}J {#}7 {#}8 . Koon defeated Healey, getting another ace on the board to his A-9 hand against K-3 but he was railed already and Steinberg was in the finale by the time Hagerling and Timoshenko finished their game: they shoved on the {#}9 {#}3 {#}2 {#}9 {#}Q board, Hagerling showing {#}9 {#}5 against Timoshenko’s {#}T {#}7 bluff.

Eventually, Hagerling also made it to the finale, defeating Ausmus with a flush after another epic duel.

Their match started on Day 4 on Level 22 (2,000/6,000/12,000). The long heads-up finale featured a varied gameplay; even though Hagerling was gradually losing chips, down to 1,739,000 at a point, he managed to come back and turn the tide until it was Steinberg down to under a million in chips. Play ended only on Level 28 (5,000/25,000/50,000): with about 500,000 left before him in chips, Steinberg called all-in preflop.
