The 2,816 entrants of WSOP 2013 Event #53 $1,500 No Limit Hold’em amassed $3,801,600 in prize money, which was to be distributed among the 297 top finishers of the tournament. With 320 players surviving Day 1, the money bubble burst on Day 2. The participants to compete for the prizes included several renowned pros, including Chance Kornuth, Barry Greenstein, Christophe De Meulder, Talal Shakerchi, Chris Moorman, Humberto Brenes, John Eames, Nam Le and Faraz Jaka.

Only 25 players made it to Day 3, led by Jonathan Cohen with 1,378,000 in chips. Sebastian Pauli, Mike Watson, David Vamplew and Tyron Krost were following, to name just a few of the final day notables. Play started on Level 22 (2,000/8,000/16,000) and the first elimination took place in just a couple of minutes, when Derek Dempsey’s K-T met Darren Rabinowitz’ A-9 on a neutral board.

On the way to the Final Table, Brenes finished 24th, Krost 12th and Pauli 11th, before Pete Males bubbled the nine-handed finale, his Q-Js getting under Arttu Raekorpi’s aces, despite a Q on the flop and a flush draw on the turn.

The Final Table seat draw was as follows:

Seat 1: Matias Ruzzi – 394,000
Seat 2: David Vamplew – 1,815,000
Seat 3: Diego Zeiter – 484,000
Seat 4: Mike Watson – 2,650,000
Seat 5: Arttu Raekorpi – 1,202,000
Seat 6: Jonathan Cohen – 1,780,000
Seat 7: Loni Harwood – 1,770,000
Seat 8: Darren Rabinowitz – 1,180,000
Seat 9: Brett Shaffer – 1,430,000

Final Table play started on Level 25 (5,000/15,000/30,000) and, in just six hands, Matias Ruzzi busted out first. With only 285,000 left in chips, Ruzzi shoved his stack from UTG and Cohen called from the CO.

Ruzzi: {#}Q {#}T
Cohen: {#}K {#}Q

Board: {#}9 {#}A {#}6 {#}J {#}9

The board did not help Ruzzi and he was out in 9th place.

Level 26 (5,000/20,000/40,000) came about and it saw three, almost consecutive eliminations. Just a couple of hands into the level, Rabinowitz 4-bet all-in for 920,000 with A-K on Brett Shaffer’ re-raise and the latter called with pocket eights. The board ran neutral and Rabinowitz finished 8th. Five hands later, Cohen 3-bet all-in with 615,000 on Watson’s raise and he called.

Watson: {#}T {#}T
Cohen: {#}A {#}K

Board: {#}2 {#}J {#}8 {#}2 {#}J

The tens held out and Cohen said goodbye in 7th place.

In the very next hand, Watson moved on to rail Diego Zeiter as well: they moved all-in on the Q-8-9 board. Zeiter held K-T but Watson had A-9 and he got the ace on the turn for a second pair and the ten on the river changed nothing.

After a longer five-handed play, Watson was eliminated in 5th place on Level 29 (10,000/40,000/80,000), his 9-8 hand being very weak against Raekorpi’s flush, and then the only lady in the finale, Loni Harwood followed, sent packing by Vamplew’s A-Q hand and the queen on the turn.

Soon after, the day was announced concluded, with the final three players returning on an unscheduled Day 4 to finish the tournament and decide the fate of the golden bracelet. In the lead is Vamplew with 5,345,000 in chips.

David Vamplew – 5,345,000
Brett Shaffer – 5,285,000
Arttu Raekorpi – 2,055,000
