The first day of play at the 2025 World Series of Poker Main Event final table has concluded in Las Vegas. The nine-handed finale progressed at a surprisingly fast pace, leaving only four players to battle it out on Wednesday’s second day. The opening act of the final table was all about Michael Mizrachi’s dominance: he played superbly, got lucky when it mattered, and built a huge chip lead.

Out of the 9,735 entrants, just four remain—only three eliminations away from crowning a new world champion who will take home $10 million.

Early Stage of the Final – Rapid Eliminations

All eyes were especially on Mizrachi on Day 1 of the final. The four-time $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner and seven-time WSOP bracelet legend returned to the Main Event final table 15 years after his first appearance.

Daehyung Lee was the first to bust, falling on the very first hand ($1,000,000). He flopped top pair with A-Q against Wasnock’s set.

Jarod Minghini didn’t last much longer ($1,250,000), losing a flip to Kenny Hallaert with suited A-Q against pocket fours.

Key Hand of the Day

Perhaps the defining clash of the day came on Hand #25 of the final table. Braxton Dunaway opened to 4 million from the cutoff with Q9♣. John Wasnock three-bet to 10 million from the button. Michael Mizrachi then four-bet to 30 million from the small blind holding A♠K. Dunaway folded, but the chip leader Wasnock moved all-in. Mizrachi called with his 71.7 million stack.

Showdown:

  • Wasnock: K♠K♣
  • Mizrachi: A♠K

Board:

  • Flop: J♠97 (no help)
  • Turn: Q♣ (gutshot draw for Mizrachi)
  • River: A (huge roar from the room!)

Mizrachi leapt from his chair in celebration, while Wasnock simply said, Fourth time in two days...

Mizrachi, grinning: I suck out when I need it!”

This hand completely changed the dynamics of the final table—Mizrachi seized the lead, and Wasnock fell back in the counts.

Leo Margets’ Historic Run and Exit

Leo Margets made history as the first woman in 30 years to reach the WSOP Main Event final table in Las Vegas. Despite starting with 53.4 million chips in the middle of the pack, many saw her as a serious contender thanks to her WSOP bracelet and international success. In the end, she finished 7th ($1,500,000), a result that was likely a disappointment for her.

Margets limped from the small blind with A10. In the big blind, Hallaert shoved with 66♠. Margets called with her 39.6 million stack.

Flop: J7♠5♠
Turn: A♠ (Spanish fans erupted in celebration)
River: 9♠ (Hallaert completed a flush!)

Margets stood with her back to the table, listening to the crowd’s reaction to follow the board. She turned around in shock when she saw the flush—Hallaert immediately went over to hug and console her.

Mizrachi Claims Another Victim: Hendrix

On Hand #30, Mizrachi opened to 4.3 million with AK♦. Hendrix three-bet to 12 million holding JJ. Mizrachi moved all-in, and Hendrix called with 56.6 million behind.

Flop: Q♣Q4 (Hendrix still ahead)
Turn: K♠ (Mizrachi takes the lead with two pair)
River: 3♣ (Hendrix eliminated in 6th place for $1.9 million)

Massive Mizrachi–Hallaert Pot and Bojovic Busts

On Hand #54, Mizrachi opened to 4 million with Q♠10. Hallaert (K♠J♠) and Dunaway both called. The flop came K10♣3♥. Mizrachi c-bet 5.5 million, with only Hallaert continuing. The turn brought the Q♣. Mizrachi bet 21.5 million, Hallaert called. The river was the 4♠. Mizrachi then shoved for 60 million. After a long tank, Hallaert called.

Mizrachi’s stack surged past 400 million!

In the very next hand, Bojovic went all-in from the cutoff with AK♠. Wasnock snap-called from the big blind with A♣J♠.

Flop: 3♣4♣2♣ (Wasnock picks up a flush draw)
Turn: J (Wasnock takes the lead)
River: 6♠ (Bojovic eliminated in 5th place for $2.4 million)

And with that, Day 1 ended with four players remaining.
