The 2,816 entrants of WSOP 2013 Event #53 $1,500 No Limit Hold’em amassed $3,801,600 in prize money, which was to be distributed among the 297 top finishers of the tournament. With 320 players surviving Day 1, the money bubble burst on Day 2. The participants to compete for the prizes included several renowned pros, including Chance Kornuth, Barry Greenstein, Christophe De Meulder, Talal Shakerchi, Chris Moorman, Humberto Brenes, John Eames, Nam Le and Faraz Jaka.
Only 25 players made it to Day 3, led by Jonathan Cohen with 1,378,000 in chips. Sebastian Pauli, Mike Watson, David Vamplew and Tyron Krost were following, to name just a few of the final day notables. Play started on Level 22 (2,000/8,000/16,000) and the first elimination took place in just a couple of minutes, when Derek Dempsey’s K-T met Darren Rabinowitz’ A-9 on a neutral board.
On the way to the Final Table, Brenes finished 24th, Krost 12th and Pauli 11th, before Pete Males bubbled the nine-handed finale, his Q-Js getting under Arttu Raekorpi’s aces, despite a Q on the flop and a flush draw on the turn.

Level 26 (5,000/20,000/40,000) came about and it saw three, almost consecutive eliminations. Just a couple of hands into the level, Rabinowitz 4-bet all-in for 920,000 with A-K on Brett Shaffer’ re-raise and the latter called with pocket eights. The board ran neutral and Rabinowitz finished 8th. Five hands later, Cohen 3-bet all-in with 615,000 on Watson’s raise and he called.

In the very next hand, Watson moved on to rail Diego Zeiter as well: they moved all-in on the Q-8-9 board. Zeiter held K-T but Watson had A-9 and he got the ace on the turn for a second pair and the ten on the river changed nothing.
After a longer five-handed play, Watson was eliminated in 5th place on Level 29 (10,000/40,000/80,000), his 9-8 hand being very weak against Raekorpi’s flush, and then the only lady in the finale, Loni Harwood followed, sent packing by Vamplew’s A-Q hand and the queen on the turn.
