It's well known that the winter months are always the strongest for online poker, with many people choosing to play at home rather than do outdoor activities in the colder weather. This is when the number of recreational players at the tables increases significantly, which also increases the activity of regular players.
The dot-com market - the international market segment that does not include segregated markets, where most European players are also found - peaked on 8 January 2024. On that date, the average table player traffic reached 21,987.
International online cash game player turnover (2021-2024):
As usual, traffic started to decline in the spring, and by the summer months, it had fallen back to around 17,000. From September onwards, however, growth resumed, reaching a significant level by the end of October. On 31 October, average player traffic reached 20,764, very close to the figures recorded at the beginning of the year - and this before the winter period had even started.
Online cash game player traffic has been growing steadily over the past few years, with player numbers hovering around 15,000 in October 2021 and 2022, 18,000-19,000 in October 2023 and over 20,000 this year.
GGPoker's performance:
Growth is driven in large part by GGPoker's success. GGPoker has not only attracted players from other rooms/networks but has also been able to attract new players who were previously inactive. The average player turnover of the market leader in cash games is currently around 13,000, representing almost 65% of the total market.
