Around 3:50 a.m. on 14th December a robber wearing a motorcycle helmet and jacket entered the Bellagio and, going straight to the Craps table cashier, seized around $1.5 to $2 million in chips, some worth $25,000. He then fled on his motorbike towards Flamingo Road. The 10th heist in Las Vegas in 2010 was “a very quick, in-and-out type of job,” and nobody got hurt.
The chips the robber took range from $100 to $25,000 in value, although authorities are now on the lookout for high-denomination chips tried to be cashed. Since it is practically impossible to redeem them in any casino other than the Bellagio, as even MGM Resorts International sister casinos can cash them only with restrictions, the stolen stack is currently of little use. Moreover, $25,000 chips are rarely used and so are likely to raise attention anyway. It remains undisclosed, however, whether MGM Resorts casinos are among those building RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) transmitters into their chips.
