Gameplay until the river is quite standard. You start with a pre-flop raise and value bet the turn and river. You should size your bet around 2/3 – 3/4 on both streets. The hand does not cause any difficulties, until the river. So, what to do on this fearsome river?
Check/fold, check/call, or bet again?
Our advice would be to bet out again and fold to a raise.
Why?
If you decide not to bet, your opponent will check back with a number of hands that are worse than yours but would also be appropriate to call a bet with. Hands like this are QJ, Q9, 99, 88 and sometimes even smaller pocket pairs. The range of your opponent consists more of bluff catchers, than real value betting hands. As you checked the river, he will receive a free showdown. You can not really be expected to call with a worse hand on this board. If he has KQ or QJ he might bet out, but he would call if you made that bet, nevertheless.
As he checked on the turn, we should not assume he has a very strong hand, and his range mostly includes weaker hands against which you should try to get as musch value as possible.
If your opponent raises your river bet, you will have a hard time deciding what to do, but it is fully acceptable to fold. Not too many opponents will bluff you here, as they usually have some showdown value. KJ or maybe AJ are also possible hands (a desperate river bluff), so most of the time your opponent will either fold or call, hoping to catch your bluff.
