Ultimate Poker is soon to launch its VIP system and announced that they would use a markedly unique rake system: instead of the most widespread, weighted contributed calculation, where players are raked based on their contribution to the pot, the Winner Takes All (WTA) system will be implemented.
In the WTA method, only the player who wins the pot is raked, which means rakeback is only paid after won hands. According to Ultimate Poker, this is to promote more action at the tables, punishing nit players.
“If you are a multitabler with an 8% VPIP, you’re not going to get rewarded as much simply because you won’t win very many pots. When you ask people what makes a game good, they generally say a loose-passive game with people calling off stacks. The plan is to reward the weak players who go to showdown often and keep them in action,” an Ultimate Poker spokesperson said.
The WTA system has been known to be used in a single room ever before, High Pulse Poker. PokerStars had considered adopting it but they eventually discarded the option.
As far as the structure of the upcoming VIP system is concerned, limited information has so far been given: there are ten levels, eight of which being monthly ones. Players gain 10 VIP points after each $1 in rake and the programme is being introduced with the 2.0 update to the software.
