The GGMasters Anniversary was originally scheduled to take place on February 23 with a guaranteed $5,000,000 prize pool. However, due to technical difficulties, GGPoker suspended the tournament, which will now resume on Sunday, March 2.
Connection Issues Led to the Suspension
The anniversary edition of GGMasters was a major event, featuring an increased guarantee of $5,000,000 instead of the usual $500,000, while maintaining the $150 buy-in.
Previously, GGPoker hosted GGMasters anniversary editions in a multi-flight format, but this year, they opted for a freezeout structure. This meant that 36,000 entries were required in a single day to avoid overlay.
The tournament initially ran smoothly, but after reaching 28,000 entries, several players reported connectivity issues. In response, GGPoker first suspended all tournaments and later canceled the entire evening schedule.
At the time of suspension, approximately 20,000 players remained in the tournament. According to the GGPoker, play will resume from the exact point where it left off, with all players retaining their previous chip stacks.
All players still in the tournament at the time of suspension have been refunded the $12 fee. Meanwhile, players who had already been eliminated before the issues occurred will not receive refunds and will not be able to re-enter the resumed event.
DDoS Attack or Internal Error?
GGPoker has not disclosed specific details about the cause of the issue. However, given the timing, some players have speculated that the site may have been the target of a DDoS attack.
Whether the disruption was caused by an internal failure or an external attack, it will be crucial for GGPoker to ensure a stable and seamless continuation, avoiding further interruptions.
