For many years, Skype played a key role in online communication. It was particularly significant for online poker players, not only for communication but also for coaching. Many still use Skype for private and group coaching sessions.
However, Microsoft has decided to retire the legendary application. Skype will be discontinued in May.
"After more than 20 years of service, Skype will be discontinued. We encourage users to switch to Microsoft Teams, which offers a wider range of integrated features for both personal and professional use," Microsoft announced.
Skype’s farewell is not entirely unexpected. In recent years, platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Discord have surged in popularity, leaving Skype struggling to keep up with innovations.
Skype was launched in 2003 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011.
