The poker community learned tragic news early May: at the age of 83, legendary poker player Thomas Austin Preston Jr., or Amarillo Slim passed away. In 1972, he won the WSOP $10,000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship and got a total of four WSOP bracelets during his career.

The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker launched with a double victory from Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom in events #2-M $215 NLHE and #3-H $530+R NLHE 6-max.

Isildur1’s success was then followed by Shaun Deeb’s, who took down no less than four SCOOP events. The US pro first won the #10-H $2,100 Stud for $41,600, then the #19-H $2,100 Triple Stud for $44,200, continuing on to winning the #26-H $2,100 Stud Hi-Lo for $40,330 and, finally, the #38-H $2,100 HORSE for $46,325.

Marvin Rettenmaier won the WPT World Championship Main Event. He started the final table of the $25,000 tournament with a major edge and went on to turn that into a victory.

The 43rd annual World Series of Poker kicked off in May but one of the most significant highlights of it was undoubtedly Event #18, which brought about the 12th bracelet for Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth started the final table 2nd in chips but gained a major edge by the heads-up of the $2,500 Seven Card Razz event.

Michael Mizrachi took down the prestigious $50,000 Players Championship for $1,451,527, besting at the final table the likes of Andy Bloch, Luke Schwartz and Bill Chen.
