Gus Hansen and Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan had paid the $10,000 buy-in on Day 1C of the Main Event before they noticed the Open Face game. True to their natures, the two poker aces headed to the Aria right away, not playing a single hand in the WSOP that day. Due to the deep structure of the Main Event, they survived nevertheless; they were left with 17,975 and 17,825 in chips, respectively. They have eventually showed up on Day 2C but Dwan busted out after hardly an hour of play and Hansen followed less than another hour later.
The two of them had been seen playing Open Face non-stop for the 24 hours before their Main Event Day 2C appearance, next to other renowned pros like Jason Mercier. Hansen, in fact, has been having a huge upswing with over $1.5 million in chips before him at one point. He could definitely use the money with a total of $3.4 million in losses at the online high stakes tables this year.
The Dane’s and Dwan’s sitting out of the WSOP Main Event has raised some controversy; while many players are interested in the OFC game at the Aria, they condemn the two pros for not taking the world championship main event seriously enough, decreasing its prestige.
