The idea itself does not originate from the Canadian PokerStars Pro, as it has surfaced several times before; Negreanu merely revitalised the issue.
“Poker needs a shotclock of some kind. It's become silly at this point how long each hand takes, often in mundane situations,” he tweeted.
Many players have reacted to the suggestion, including Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, who supports the idea and even claimed a degree of responsibility for the widespread nature of the phenomenon. ‘Durrrr’ is notorious for taking long to make a move; Doyle Brunson, for instance, has on an occasion claimed him to be one of the slowest players he had ever played with. Dwan now claims that his famous tanking has contributed to the popularity of long analyses of the hands, even in standard situations.
“When I was tanking I was legitimately thinking 75% or so of the time n balancing rest. Lots today are 90% hollywood 10% think,” Dwan commented via Twitter.
