Previously, Merge network raked $0.01 after each $0.20 in the pot in No Limit and Pot Limit games but, as of 1 May, 2013, they changed that to $0.01 rake after each $0.18 in the pot, effectively meaning a raise from 5% to 5.5% rake.
The rake cap has increased as well: in heads-up games, the $0.50 cap is now $1, the $1 rake cap of 3-handed games is now $2 and the $3 cap in 3+ handed games is $4 on lower stakes, while it is now $5 in mid- and higher stakes.
According to the announcement from the network, rake in the Limit and rising blinds games remain the same. To counter the increase in other rakes, the network plans to introduce rake chase, rake race and cashback promotions.
In the past 6 months, Merge network has lost 20% of its cash game traffic, despite the fact that they still accept US players. US-friendly networks Bodog (through its Bovada skin) and Revolution perform considerably better, even though none of them are among the top 10 of the .com traffic list. Merge currently occupies the 16th position in the comparison.
