If the player occupying the table fails to play enough hands against another who sits in on him, he is to pay a certain number of big blinds as a fine. That is, of course, unless the opponent is at fault for not playing enough. The fine is not applied if the player loses his entire stack before clearing the minimum, either.
Another suggestion was to apply the King of the Hill system to heads-up games: in this scenario, PokerStars would limit the number of heads-up tables where there is no action. This would mean a player seeking action can only sit at one of the limited number of tables, while those who occupy a table would have two options: either they play their opponent to defend the table or they sit out, in which case they are kicked from the table by the software. To occupy a table and refuse to play would no longer be an option.
‘PokerStars Nick’ announced via the 2+2 forum that, taking players’ feedback into consideration, they are now planning to implement the forced play system. The original concept as described above would be altered so that players who generate a certain number of VPPs in a 30-day period would be granted the option to refuse playing against certain opponents. In any other case, the aforementioned criteria apply.
The number of minimum required hands to play to avoid the fine is currently undisclosed; while PokerStars plans to implement a solution to the bumhunting problem in 2014, it is still possible that further enhancements will be made to the system or even a completely new idea will be introduced.
