Alex Dreyfus, the leader of the Global Poker Index (GPI) has pretty impressive goals for the new year. He plans to reach an audience of 100 million poker players and wants to develop a strong customer base.
According to Dreyfus, the biggest problem of the current poker market is that it's very fragmented. The GPI wants to change this by letting go of the outdated advertising techniques and redefining what todays player needs.
To achieve this mission, the company recently launched a business called Pokertainment which aims to find innovative ways to make poker more popular.
Dreyfus believes that people are not excited anymore by big tournament scores and that while the focus on money was exciting enough to start the poker boom, it's not enough to keep up a healthy market in the long run aswell.
Dreyfus thinks that poker should find its spot next to eSports or at least that the two markets should become closer. They are currently developing a game called HoldemX that aims at the eSports community.
Many players believe that Dreyfus is the savior of the game and the he is the most innovative businessman on the scene. By the end of 2016, we will most likely see how well the GPI is faring, by then much awaited Global Poker League (GPL) will be underway and the HoldemX game released.
