In April 2015, the head of the French gambling regulation association (ARJEL), Charles Coppolani met with budget secretary Christian Eckert to discuss ending the French segregated market and returning to the .COM/.EU market. They both agreed that France needs to share their player pool with the global market, although operators would still need to get licenses for online gambling and pay tax after French players.
Unfortunately there were no efforts made regarding this issue since then, but on May 3rd France took a big step towards a shared player pool. The French Senate approved a bill which makes the sharing of player pools possible, but the Parliament still has to vote for it aswell.
Once this step is complete, France can start negotiating with other segregated markets such as Spain and Italy to form a shared player pool.
The French-Spanish-Italian player pool could prove very beneficial to the overall health of poker and would allow other nations which regulate online gambling to join this player pool in the future.
