Phil Laak
The event sold out, 244 entrants battled for 3 days until the six-handed final table. Laak eventually went heads-up against Andrew Pantling during the game before their final battle. The final hand came when Pantling raised from the button and Laak went all in with his entire stack. Pantling called with all his chips and showed Ah-9h to lead over Laak's Kd-5c. The flop fell 7h-4h-4c, which was a flush draw for Pantling and gave him a lot of hope. The turn came 5d, with which Laak took the lead. The final card was a Qc, what didn't help Pantling, Laak won with 2 pairs. It took Laak a total of 3 hours to finish him, winning Ł170,802 and the gold WSOPE bracelet.
When asked how was able to finally make it to the first place, Laak said, his endurance poker record (which he set this July by playing poker for 115 hours) helped him tremendously in his current success. He said, it made him a better player, and that it rewired him from the inside, and thanks to this he is a much happier man, according to him: "The food tastes better, I feel better, heck, even the sex is better. It’s all better!"
