WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Won by Alan Sternberg

Although there were 4 pros at the final table, the "amateur" prevailed: <strong>Alan Sternberg</strong> took the the <em>2011 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star </em>event down in San Jose, California. The winner took $1,039,000 of cash with him besides the <em>WPT</em> bracelet and the trophy.

Sexton couldn't overcome his short stack, he pushed all-in on the 24th blind level, Mike Matusow calling. Matusow showed {#}K {#}J, which had Sexton's {#}K {#}Q beaten with the jack falling on the river.

A few hands later, McCarrel and Kelly both got pre-flop all-in:

Kelly won with second pair.

Long 4-handed period came, which ended with the elimination of Rajkumar on the 28th blind level, when the short-stack Rajkumar went pre-flop all-in. Kelly re-raised all-in, the two saw the {#}A {#}3 {#}2 {#}7 {#}T board.

Kelly won with better kicker, only 3 players remained:

Steven Kelly - 4.280.000
Mike Matusow - 1.425.000


Matusow tried to bluff Alan Sternberg on the 29th blind level with {#}9 {#}2, raising all-in, but Sternberg called, and shut 'The Mouth'. Matusow was eliminated on 3rd place.

The heads-up started with the enormous chiplead of Sternberg, who soon managed to end the game: on the 31th blind level (20.000/60.000/120.000) he pushed all-in with {#}T {#}8, Kelly called with {#}A {#}Q, but this time he didn't have luck, the board came {#}Q {#}8 {#}7 {#}7 {#}8.



Sternberg took down the biggest prize in his entire carreer, his last record being the 2010 Borgata Spring Poker Open $1,500 NLHE runner-up finish for $40,071.
