Players started to drop out on Level 24 (5,000/15,000/30,000), the first being a favourite, Jason Mercier. The WSOP and EPT champion shoved with 465,000 from MP and got called by Sergii Baranov.

Baranov’s top pair sent Mercier to the rail. A bit later, 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong opened to 65,000 from UTG, Hellmuth called from the Button and Stephane Girault shoved with his remaining 300,000 in chips. Cheong folded and Hellmuth called.

Despite the flopped ace for Girault, Hellmuth’s hand improved to straight on the river. Paul Tedeschi and Christopher ‘NigDawG’ Brammer came next, then it was Cheong’s turn: he and Baranov pushed on the {#}6 {#}A {#}K flop, Cheong holding {#}A {#}Q and Baranov showing {#}K {#}Q . On the {#}2 turn and {#}T river, Baranov won with a flush.

The heads-up was reached on Level 28 (10,000/40,000/80,000): Hellmuth raised to 320,000 from SB, Stephane Albertini shoved his 900,000 from BB and Hellmuth called.

With a set on the river, Hellmuth made it into the HU with a major lead:

Phil Hellmuth: 9,575,000
Sergii Baranov: 3,025,000

Despite having an edge several times in during the final table, Baranov could not come back from here in the heads-up and, eventually, went all-in preflop with 2,500,000 in chips.

Phil Hellmuth won his 13th bracelet and also took over the lead on the WSOP Player of the Year list. Runner-up Baranov was not disappointed, either: the Ukrainian businessman, who is winner of two EPT side events, has won the biggest prize in his career so far.
