Phil Ivey Wins 9th Bracelet - WSOP APAC Event #3

Phil Ivey won his 9th golden WSOP bracelet of his career today at the WSOP APAC Event #3 - AU$2,200 Mixed tournament in Australia. Daniel Negreanu finished 4th.

The final table of the WSOP APAC Event #3 - AU$2,200 Mixed tournament was held today. The final was highly anticipated as two well-known pros were present, Phil Ivey in the chiplead with 144,300 chips, followed by 4-time WSOP champion Daniel Negreanu, who sat down with 129,000 chips.

The first elimination came around on the 17th blind level.

In the PLO game Graeme Putt opened to 3,200, Negreanu, the SB Brandon Wong and the BB Kevin Song called. The flop came {#}7 {#}9 {#}2 . Wong checked, Song bet 11,000, Putt and Negreanu folded. Wong, however, raised to 45,800 to pot. Song tanked, asked how much Wong has (21,000) and called. The turn came {#}6 . Wong went all-in, Song called.

Wong eliminated Song with a straight, Song finished 6th.

Rob Campbell lost some major pots soon, eventually he went all-in extremely short-stacked in Seven-card Stud, Wong, Putt and Ivey all called, but Wong won the pot, eliminating Campbell.

Along came the 18th blind level.

The Canadian PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu finished 4th. He opened to 4,500 in a PLO hand, the SB WOng 3bet to 14,500, Negreanu called. The flop came {#}A {#}T {#}4 . Wong bet 18,500, Negreanu called. The turn was {#}7 , Wong bet, which put Negreanu all-in, who called.

Even though Negreanu had flush and straight draws, Wong defeated him.

The heads-up formulated with the elimination of Putt, who was ousted by Wong, who started the heads-up with a slight chiplead.

The heads-up brought about a huge fight. Ivey took over the lead from Wong, but he retook it and grew his stack by winning a Seven-card Stud hand. The 21st blind level started with the following blinds/stacks:

Ivey started to climb back. He doubled up in 2-7 Triple Draw, then took a major pot in NLHE. In the latter hand Wong opened to 10,500, Ivey 3bet to 31,000 Wong called. The flop was {#}2 {#}T {#}K . Ivey bet 40,000, Wong instacalled. Ivey studied his spot at the {#}K turn, but went all-in with 105,000. Wong tanked for quite some time and eventually folded. The players were about even.

Ivey dominated the table, he reached a chiplead of 365,000 (Wong had around 130,000), but Wong didn't give in easily and climbed back to 210,000 with a major Limit Hold'em hand.

The blinds went up once again.

Wong took the lead one more time, but then Ivey dominated the match for the rest of the game. He built up a considerable lead, and finished his opponent off in a 2-7 Triple Draw game. Wong only had 10,000. Both players draw 2 cards, Ivey stood pat. Wong draw 2 card two more times. Ivey showed T-9-8-3-2, Wong 7-6-3, showed one of his draw cards which was a 4, but the second card a queen.

Phil Ivey collected his 9th WSOP bracelet with this victory, which is still 4 less than the current record holder Phil Hellmuth's, but Ivey is on the right track; Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan both have 10 bracelets.
