WSOP 2013 - Event #20 - Calen McNeil Wins Heads-Up

World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2013 Event #20 $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8-or-Better did not conclude on Day 3, as scheduled. The final hands of the heads-up had to be postponed with Calen McNeil in about a three times lead over Can Kim Hua.

The conclusion of the heads-up play of WSOP 2013 Event #20 $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8-or-Better had to be postponed from Day 3. The Final Table was nine-handed and it started on Level 24 (10,000/20,000).

The Final Table seat draw was as follows:

Seat 1: Can Kim Hua – 935,000
Seat 2 Dao Bac – 340,000
Seat 3: Calen McNeil – 490,000
Seat 4: Joe Ford – 592,000
Seat 5: Todd Brunson – 662,000
Seat 6: Stephen Chidwick – 75,000
Seat 7: Won Goag – 120,000
Seat 8: John Monnette – 570,000
Seat 9: Tony Ma – 265,000


Dao Bac, Won Goag, John Monnette, Stephen Chidwick, Tony Ma, Joe Ford and Todd Brunson were eliminated in this order, leaving Calen McNeil and Can Kim Hua at the table with the following stacks:

Can Kim Hua – 3,200,000
Calen McNeil – 1,300,000


A long and dynamic game ensued with varied luck but McNeil managed to come back and even gain a major lead, thanks to a monster pot of 1,770,000 he scooped in the last hand of the day. On the tournament director’s decision, the conclusion of the game was postponed to Day 4. The players sat beck behind stack as follows:

Calen McNeil – 3,470,000
Can Kim Hua – 1,100,000


Play continued on Level 31 (50,000/100,000) and Hua was quickly down to only 600,000 after the first major pot of the day. He then managed to come back and even re-gain the lead several times as the chips wandered from one player to the other. After almost 5 hours of play, Hua was eventually dropping once again to under 1,000,000. In the last hand, they shoved on the {#}8 {#}K {#}4 {#}T board.

McNeil’s set held out and he won the tournament for $277,274 and the coveted golden bracelet.
