The tournament saw another 557 players in addition to Hellmuth, the prize pool totalled at $753,300 and 56 players received a share of it. 155 participants made it to Day 2 and 17 of them could return on Day 3 as well, including Poker Hall of Fame member Linda Johnson, four times WSOP champion Artie Cobb and six times WSOP bracelet holder Layne Flack.

The finale started on Level 22 (3,000/12,000/24,000) and, in just a couple of hands, Cobb was eliminated first. Fei Chu, Tony Gill, Mike Leah and Matt Vengrin followed. On Level 27 (10,000/40,000/80,000), Day 1 chipleader Raul Paez shoved with his remaining 160,000 in chips on the third street and Joseph Hertzog called.

Hertzog received 4 on the seventh street for two pairs while Paez was left with a king-high after the 6 and he was out in 3rd. Hertzog started the heads-up in a slight lead.

The lead moved back and forth between the two in the early hands of the duel but, after coming back from a major disadvantage of 4:1, WSOP 2011 $10,000 LHE Champion Daniel Idema managed to grasp an edge. In the last hand, they shoved their chips in on the fourth street.
